When in India I met a friend that told me her story. She was in love with a Jewish boy and they lived together for several years, then they was forces to think about the question of the future of their relationships.
His family would only accept her as his bride if she converted to Judaism and she felt it is unfair that she had to change for him and not the other way around. She told me that she accepted him for who he was and didn’t ask him to change him faith for her, so why was she forced to change her faith for him?
They separated and when we met in India she still felt bad about the whole thing.
I felt that an explanation of the reason Jewish people are more strict on marriages between Jews is in order and here is where the Kabbalah can help.
There are actually more than one reason, the first is the belief that Judaism is the way of God and the need for marriages between Jews as a way to preserve the community. This is the same I think with any other community that feels very strongly about its beliefs and want to pass them in the same way to the next generations.
The second reason is of a more deeper level. The tree of life describes the way the soul is rooted in heavens and reaches the earth. All Jewish souls were present at the time of the Sinai revelations.
Soul mates are coming from the same tree and can be followed to their roots. If someone is a Jew his souls mate is a Jew as well.
The belief accounts for people that are considered to be of a Jewish soul and live currently in other identities.
So if someone loves another to the extent that he wants to convert for him it is taken as an indication that that person has a Jewish soul and the marriage are the manifestation of a strong force that bring the two soul mates to each other.
When you find your soul mate you find a whole context with it and being from another religion is considered a result of deeds of previous life times.
When the person is ready he would be driven with the force of love and his good creation to return to his original place in the Jewish people.
I know that this doesn’t help people like the friend whose story brought this post about but it can explains a lot as there are people born in one side of the world as part of a certain community and only feels at home after reaching the community their souls comes from.
There is no stronger force than love don’t forget it.
