A lamen is the breastplate worn by a Hebrew priest in the Temple. But I think what he meant was 'layman'.

To answer his question, Middle Pillar meditation would be the way to get a sense of it. However, bringing onesself into it is by no means an easy goal. Crowley's writings might well be of use. _Confessions_ contains a basic run-down.
