Sara's Blog

I know that this is a little off topic from the issues of Kabbalah but it is actually very relevant to the way we think of the world and operate in it.

A recent report in Israel showed that most cases rabbinic court cases are mishandled

Earlier I’ve read here

These are not small issues in a country where all Jewish citizens regardless of religiosity are forced by law to use these haredi-controled religious courts for all marriages, divorces and issues of personal status.

and decided to discuss a little the issue of religion and state in Judaism and according to the Kabbalah.

If we read the bible then whenever a regime was in place for the people of Israel it was always accompanied by the presence of the religious leader of that time and the king was legitimate just as long as he served the will of god as was known through the prophet of that time.

There is no separation between religion and state in the state if Israel and in fact there never were such a separation throughout history.

On the other side most Jews have no problem with the separation that is customary in other countries they live in.

So how can the lives of a modern state be controlled by a religious authority? Considering the fact that there are many colors to Orthodox Jews and that other form of interpretation to Judaism such as Reform Judaism and Conservative Judaism are denied any influence on the official religion this is a very big task.

As much as I value the wisdom of Judaism and like the idea of a prophet guiding the kind I’m afraid we run out of prophets and if it all amount to politics in the end better free religion from the state and the state from the religion.
