Interested in starting a new thread on the discussion of the Kabbalistic symbolism and interpretation of the Rider-Waite tarot deck.

For Example: Card 2, entitled 'The High Priestess'

In this card the High Priestess is seated between two pillars, one black with the initial B and one white with the initial J. These pillars are said to represent the two symbolic pillars in the Temple of Solomon, Boaz and Jakin (or Jachin) which were created to represent the two Sephiroth of Netzach and Hod, or the two opposing forces of nature, light and dark, equilibrium, etc. The tapestry supported between these two pillars, of which the high priestess sits infront of, pictures the Sephiroph as pomegranates forming the shape of the tree of life. Her headdress, a moon divided by two crescents, is one of the kabbalistic signs for the moon (according to Eliphas Levi. The Doctrine of Transcendental Magic) At her feet is pictured another lunar symbol of a crescent moon. Anyone have any suggestions as to the relevance of the Lunar symbolism? or the white cross pictured on the chest of the high priestess? I hope that through this thread people can share their discoveries, or interpretations on the kabbalistic symbolism found throughout the tarot.

A number of things come to mind; firstly, that the Moon is a feminine symbol, and hence is exalted in the attribution to its highest meanings. It also reflects light, in this context, the light of Kether to Tiphareth. See Crowley for more in the 'Book of Thoth'.

The HPS is also termed by the GD as a 'collector of energy', holding it until solution is reached, which may have meanings in Quantumn Physics models? The Moon attributed to Yesod also has connections with the process of Solution in Alchemy.

The Cross I would see as equilibrium, the Abyss, the Crucifixion (HPS as Mary, assisting the Adept over the Abyss, etc.).

The Veil behind is the 'last temptation'; showing the Tree of Life is means that beyond that point even the map itself that got you there (i.e. to the Abyss) must be dropped if progress is to be achieved. (By 'dropped', I mean dis-attached, rather than discarded).
