] Whenever you do innovative work in magick, you create associations that are true ] from yoursubjective point of view but are often not shared by others. The trick ] to creating your own system is to be sure that it remains self-consistent and is ] not contradicted by experience. This is much more difficult that it seems.

] You have here a bit of jumbled science. The lunar eclipse occurs when the ] shadow of the earth falls across the moon, esclipsing the sun's light. In ] astrology, this is called an opposition: two astrological bodies at 180 degrees ] of separation. In this case, the sun is opposed to the moon.

Well, in the context of the original question, it would be more relevant to describe lunar eclipses as the phases of the moon (depending upon what the extent of eclipse is).

] There is no ] increase in gravitational effects of the moon during this time because the mass ] of the moon has not changed.

Nearly right. The last respondent was referring to a solar eclipse, when there is an additional gravitational pull caused by the moon and the sun being in alignment. It is called conjunction (astrological terms being in vogue). In the event he is quite right and there is nothing wrong with the physics. He merely misread or misunderstood the question.

] Only a change in mass can cause a change in gravitation.

Wrong. Gravitational effect is a function of mass *and* distance. A fine point perhaps, but gravition is not an attribute of any body but the effect of the proximity a body. It is a relativistic effect and is not therefore meaningful for all models of the universe. The gravitational effect attributed to the moon (only) as experienced on Earth does not change if the mass of the moon remains constant *and* it's orbit remains at a constant distance from the Earth which it doesn't - not quite. However the gravitational effect as experienced on Earth during a solar eclipse as the last respondent was describing is certainly greater than at other times due to the alignment of the moon and the sun. So he is right after all.

The original post however referred to a lunar eclipse, more often referred to as the new moon but which is one of the phases of the moon. Contrary to some popular neo-magic, the forces of eclipse are real and tangible. See references in good books to Caput Dracona and Cauda Dracona or discuss them with someone who knows about the subject.

] The feeling of cleansing you report is due to your personal attribution of ] cleansing to this phenomenon, and has nothing whatever to do with the eclipse at ] all. It can be good magick, but it's poor physics.

As to the cleansing effects - don't know but I would not be so certain as the estimable duo. Magic is not so empirical as physics, good or bad. Nor as easy to learn since it requires understanding as well as knowledge.

The powers you will be invoking will be the astral tides/rivers and flows which continually wash over the earth. They have no material counter-part; They are judged by their effect.

We are witnessing singularly unique changes in these forces that have to date gone largely unnoticed by the world at large, one manifestation of it is the comet Hale-Bopp. Another was Hayakutaki
