Exactly the question that arose in my mind when I finished the same book! It came across to me in a similar vein to Carlos Castenda's works, in that it was obviously heavily researched, told a tale of meeting strange and miraculous people, and purported to reveal authentic teachings of a hidden tradition. Equally in both works the line between fact and fiction, including the existence of the proponent and the characters, as well as the events, is fuzzy.
At the end of the day, one can examine the facts and attempt to disprove them, where important, or take the text purely as a vehicle for teachings which one may glean from it, independent of narrative veracity. Or some combination.
Personally, I got very excited reading the dust jacket, frowned when I hit the phrase that indicated that one jumped from Zelator to Master, then got bogged down at about page 23 (line 5). The stuff about Spare was interesting, as was some of the stuff that seemed based on Gurdjieff. Don't know about the sacred architecture, though!
